Yes, you read that correctly. The electric vehicle maker confirmed it is planning to set up shop inside the upscale department store this weekend as a pilot. If it goes well, the companies may expand their partnership and bring what they call Tesla Galleries to even more stores, according to Fast Company, which first reported the news.
The Tesla Gallery, located in the men's department on the first floor, will house a Model X for customers to view and schedule a time to test drive.
"Nordstrom customers will be able to mix and match interior and trim options, learn what it's like to own a Tesla, and experience Model X first hand by going out for demonstration drives with Tesla employees," the retailer said in a statement.
For its part, Tesla promised a "low pressure environment" where Nordstrom shoppers can learn about the all-electric SUV.
Tesla doesn't yet have a sales license for the gallery, but the company is working on that. Until then, Nordstrom shoppers interested in buying a Tesla will have to call an off-premise sales associate, go to the Tesla store 5 miles away, or make their purchase online.
Meanwhile on the EV front, Tesla last week denied reports that its Model S and X EVs have suspension problems and that it ordered customers to keep quiet about the defects.
