Piers Morgan Questioned By Police Over Phone Hacks

Piers Morgan has been questioned by Scotland Yard detectives investigating phone hacking at the Mirror Group of newspapers, according to media reports Friday. "In early November I was asked to attend an interview by officers from Operation Weeting when I was next in the U.K.," Morgan said in a statement to the Guardian . "I attended that interview as requested on 6 December 2013." The Weeting inquiry has received allegations from witnesses that Morgan, who was editor of the Daily Mirror from 1995 to 2004, was aware of phone interception at the title. Morgan has denied the allegations. The 48-year-old journalist was previously editor of the News of the World, where several former employees are standing trial on criminal phone-hacking charges. Scotland Yard's December interview with Morgan was conducted under caution, which means police have grounds to suspect a person of an offense.Copyright © 2014 MarketWatch, Inc....
