8 Killed As Turkey Awaits Election News: Reports

As Turkey watched for results from its unusually high-profile local elections on Sunday, media reports said eight people were killed during the voting. These elections usually draw little worldwide attention, but they're widely seen as a referendum on the decade-long rule of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He and his party have dominated Turkish politics over the past decade in a period of great prosperity, said an Associated Press report. But Erdogan lately has been rocked by graft allegations and national security leaks. He's denied the allegations and fought back through measures such as blocking Twitter and YouTube. Voting was peaceful throughout most of Turkey, but feuds broke out in two villages near Turkey's southeastern border with Syria, leading to eight deaths and 13 injuries, according to a Voice of America report .Copyright © 2014 MarketWatch, Inc....
