Obama: Economic Goals Of 1963 March Still Elusive

President Barack Obama said Wednesday said that a lesser-known goal of the March on Washington in 1963 was economic equality and this objective remains elusive 50 years later. "It is along this second dimension - of economic opportunity - the chance through honest toil to advance one's station in life - that the goals of 50 years ago have fallen most short," Obama said in remarks which featured soaring rhetoric, at a ceremony at the Lincoln Monument, While there are examples of success, black unemployment has remained almost twice as high as white unemployment and the gap in wealth between the races has not lessened, he added. The president challenged the audience to push for good jobs and just wages for all Americans. "This remains our great unfinished business," he said.Copyright © 2013 MarketWatch, Inc....
