Former anti-apartheid activist Mamphela Ramphele launched a new political platform Monday to fight endemic corruption and growing inequality with a view of forming a party to contest future elections.Dressed in traditional clothing, Ms. Ramphele spoke at the site of a former women's prison used during apartheid in Johannesburg. "This political platform will declare war on corruption," Ms. Ramphele said, adding, "Corruption, nepotism and patronage have become the hallmarks of many public servants."Ms. Ramphele said the political platform will be called "Agang", which roughly translates, to build. Ms. Ramphele said she is having discussions with different groups in South Africa, including the opposition party Democratic Alliance. The talks will form the foundation for turning the platform into a party that will contest the 2014 national elections.
