Qantas Cuts Northern Territory Services

Qantas Airways Ltd.

(QAN.AU) said Wednesday that it will cut back on mainly domestic flights to and from Australia's Northern Territory.The move includes lowering the frequency of its Jetstar Darwin-to-Sydney service to seven return trips a week from Aug. 16, from up to 11 currently, the airline said in an e-mailed statement.Qantas said it will also reduce its own return services between Ayers Rock and Cairns to seven from 14 a week, and between Ayers Rock and Perth to two, from four a week, from Sept. 1. The latter service will be suspended from Oct. 28, the company said.Jetstar will additionally reduce the number of return trips it schedules between Darwin and Denpasar to eight, from up to 11 currently, from Aug. 16.Qantas Domestic chief executive Lyell Strambi said the decision was spurred by the poor performance of those routes."The impact of the high Australian dollar on the inbound tourism market has also had a significant impact on the performance of these services," he added.Th...
