HTC Expects Second Quarter Revenue, Margins to Rise

Embattled handset maker HTC Corp. (2498.TW) said it expects revenue and margins to recover in the second quarter as shipments of its new flagship smartphone pick up, although levels will still not match those a year earlier.The Taiwanese smartphone maker saw its profit plummet in the first-quarter to its lowest on public record, amid shipment delays of its flagship HTC One smartphone due to camera component shortage.HTC has been finding it increasingly hard to compete in a global smartphone industry dominated by Samsung Electronics Co. and Apple Inc., with Chinese brands rising rapidly in the low-end space.
