Supreme Court Denies ISE Appeal on Options Dispute

The U.S. Supreme Court Monday decided not to take up a long-running legal battle between exchanges over the right to trade lucrative options contracts.The action is the highest-profile yet in the six-and-a-half-year dispute and centers on contracts linked to major stock indexes, which analysts estimate generate tens of millions of dollars in exchange fees yearly.The Supreme Court, in a short written order issued Monday, denied an appeal on the matter by the New York-based International Securities Exchange, which had pushed for the highest U.S. court to take up the matter after several lower courts ruled to protect existing licensing deals.ISE's petition for Supreme Court review faced long odds, as the justices only agree to consider only a small percentage of the appeals they receive.
