Icahn's Stake in Netflix Surpasses $1 Billion Paper Profit

For Carl Icahn, the gains on Netflix Inc. (NFLX) are streaming in.In a little over six months, Mr. Icahn has seen his investment in the video-by-demand company gain more than $1 billion.The activist billionaire's paper profits crossed that threshold on Wednesday thanks to a continued rally in the stock, which has pushed his roughly 10% stake higher and also changed his tone on the company. Once an activist play for Mr. Icahn, he is now content to defer to management. "We are obviously very happy," Mr. Icahn said Wednesday.Mr. Icahn purchased more than 5.5 million shares last year at a price around $58 a share. With shares up another 4.5% to $244.49 on Wednesday, a nearly two-year high, his position is worth around $1.35 billion.He said Wednesday he hasn't sold a single share, though the credit for that decision, he said, belonged to his investment partner David Schechter and his son Brett Icahn.
