EUROPE MARKETS: European Stocks Rise To Highest Level Since 2008

Europe's benchmark stock index closed at its highest level since June 2008 on Friday, with banks in the driver's seat after better-than-expected data from the U.S. removed some worries about the country's recovery.The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose 0.2% to close at 308.72, posting a 1.2% weekly gain.The upbeat end to the week marked the fourth straight week in positive territory, after massive central-bank easing globally recently encouraged investors to move into the equity market instead of the lower-yielding and traditionally safer government bond markets.Lackluster growth data from the euro zone earlier this week sent markets higher, as they increased hopes for more stimulus measures from the European Central Bank.
