USDA Will Hold Public Comment Period On Crop Report Releases

S. Department of Agriculture will solicit public comments as it reviews release times for its monthly crop reports, the agency announced Friday.The move comes following CME Group's (CME) decision to expand electronic trading hours for grain futures to 21 hours per day, which will mean USDA reports, which often cause major market shifts, are released as the market is trading. Many traders are concerned about the volatility that will result from the new schedule on USDA report days, as market participants try to digest the reports."It is important that USDA continue to ensure the integrity of its report release process, particularly as global exchanges move closer to 24-hour trading," USDA chief economist Joe Glauber said in a statement.The USDA crop reports are currently released at 7:30 a.m. CT.
