Baker Hughes : Weekly US Gas Rig Count Down 6 In Week To 594

The number of natural-gas drilling rigs working in the U.

S. fell by six in the past week, to 594, according to oilfield-services company Baker Hughes Inc. (BHI).The figure was down 287 compared with the year-ago figure.Last month, natural gas futures fell to a 10-1/2-year low of $1.907 a million British thermal units, prompting many producers to switch rigs from the fuel to more profitable crude oil drilling. Prices have rallied 34% since that low, but extracting natural gas remains less attractive for many companies.The oil-rig count in the past week rose by one to 1,383. The number of working oil rigs was up 425 from a year ago.Six rigs were classified as miscellaneous, two more than last week but down two from a year ago.Copyright © 2012 Dow Jones Newswires...
