BAE Systems Awarded GBP328 Million UK Submarine Contract

BAE Systems PLC (BA.

LN) has been awarded a GBP328 million contract to design the U.K. Royal Navy's next generation of nuclear deterrent submarines, the Ministry of Defence said Tuesday.Engineering firm Babcock International Group PLC (BAB.LN) has also been awarded a GBP15 million contract to design parts of the in-service support of the submarine, while Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (RR.LN) is being paid more than GBP4 million for work on the reactor design, it said."This government is committed to maintaining a continuous submarine-based nuclear deterrent...and this program will help to sustain or create more than 1,900 jobs across the U.K.," Defence Secretary Philip Hammond said in a statement.The contracts are part of a GBP3 billion investment in the design phase of the new Successor class submarines that was approved in May last year, not the missiles they carry, the ministry said.The first Successor submarine is due to be delivered in 2028, replacing the Vanguard Class, which carries t...
