saw a drop in second-fiscal quarter earnings, though results came in ahead of Wall Street's expectations. For the quarter ended April 29, Applied Materials reported net income of $289 million, or 22 cents a share, compared to net income of $489 million, or 37 cents a share, for the same period last year. On a non-GAAP basis, the company said it would have earned $1349 million, or 27 cents a share, for the recent period. Revenue slipped 11% to $2.54 billion.
