Tata Motors Global Vehicle Sales Fall for Sixth Straight Month

Tata Motors Ltd. (500570.BY) said Wednesday its global vehicle sales dropped for the sixth straight month in April as weak demand in India offset robust sales at its luxury-vehicle unit, Jaguar Land Rover PLC.The Mumbai-based company sold 81,241 vehicles in the past month, down 7% from a year earlier.Sales of passenger vehicles such as cars and sport-utility vehicles fell 16% to 41,272 vehicles, while those of trucks and buses rose 6% to 39,969. At U.K.-based Jaguar Land Rover, sales increased 15% to 28,874 vehicles."The decline in global sales is a fallout of lower domestic sales," said Mahantesh Sabarad, an analyst at Fortune Equity Brokers Pvt. Ltd.Tata Motors and other auto makers in India are hit by falling demand in the local auto industry as high fuel prices and borrowing cost along with a slowing economy have dissuaded many from purchasing vehicles.
