Volkswagen AG (VOW.XE) expects operating earnings and sales to rise in 2014 after stagnating this year, the German car maker said Thursday.The global car market will likely grow more rapidly next year than in 2013, the world's third-largest car maker by sales said, as it released its annual report.The company confirmed its guidance for flat operating earnings this year despite rising sales as the European debt crisis slows down the business. Competitive pressure is high and still rising, said Chief Executive Winterkorn.The group, whose 12 brands range from Skoda to Audi, Porsche and Lamborghini, expects a weak start to the year and a recovery in the second half.Mr. Winterkorn said he sees the group on the right track towards its goal of becoming the world's largest car maker by 2018, dethroning Toyota Motor Corp.
