FOXBUSINESS.COM PROFILES ENTREPRENEURS AGE 35 AND YOUNGER

The self-discipline that 35-year-old entrepreneur Angela Kim has had her whole life reflects her training as a concert pianist.

When Kim couldn’t find the kind of skin lotion she was looking for, she applied the principles of music discipline to the problem. “I just approached it like the way I did with piano –its not working, you fix it, and then you move on. You break it down, you find a solution,” explains Kim, the founder of Om Aroma, a natural and organic skin-care line.

There was no way there wasn’t an answer, says Kim, it was just a matter of time. After testing different ingredients over 1,000 times, Kim was finally satisfied with the product and began building Om Aroma.

In July, Kim began Savor the Success, a Web site geared toward helping female entrepreneurs. Kim says she started it because she saw a need for more resources. “I found myself asking a lot of questions -- how do I get an investor, how do I build sales, how do I get more customers, how do I market, how do I build a brand?”

    THE SIX SHOOTER

    1. Where were you the moment you decided your business plan?

The creation of Om Aroma & Co. was a gradual, organic process for me. It started as a passionate hobby, and I started to give the creams as gifts to friends. People began to ask if they could buy them as gifts for their friends. I didn’t know it then, but this was the start of a business.

The moment that I decided to launch Savor the Success was much more definitive. I was leading workshops for another organization for female entrepreneurs, and I felt there was a need to deepen the process and offer more services that would help this audience. As a female entrepreneur, I knew exactly what they needed.

One of the founders of that organization interviewed me to become the leader here in NYC, and I had so many ideas running in my head on what I would do differently.

I thought to myself, if they choose me, I’ll just bring my ideas and plug it into this organization. If they don’t choose me, this is a sign to branch out and create Savor the Success to implement my ideas. I was on the subway when I got the text message that they decided to go with someone else. I immediately texted my husband (our CTO) and said “Let’s do it!” That was in early July.

    2. What was the one thing you didn't know that you had to bluff your way through?

I didn’t know anything about sales. I had to hire a sales coach to teach me the basics of a sales presentation and how to organize a sales cycle. That was the toughest part for me.

    3. What one life lesson did you learn that helped you build your business?

There is always a solution to a problem.

    4. Who is your role model or inspiration?

I’m very inspired by women who have creative spirits and can do something with it. I think it’s amazing if someone can take her imagination and bring it into reality whether it’s music, art, a product, or a fantastic service. Nothing inspires me more.

    5. What do you wish you had more of: time or money?

I wish I had more time. Money will always come and there’s always the possibility to get more. Time? A very precious commodity in my book.

    6. What is the one word your employees would use to describe you?

    Fearless.
