Sen. Edward Kennedy Dies At Age 77: Reports
By Michael Kitchen
MarketWatch Pulse
LOS ANGELES -- U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy has died at age 77 after a battle with cancer, reports said late Tuesday, citing a statement from his family. Kennedy was first elected to the Senate in 1962, taking over the Massachussets seat of his brother John Kennedy, who was then serving as president. Edward Kennedy had suffered from a brain tumor and had been largely absent from the Senate in recent months. He was known for his advocacy of health-care and civil rights issues and seen as a leader of the Democratic Party's liberal wing. His death follows just weeks after the passing of his sister, Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
