Even if you don't think you do, you already know plenty about commodities. Want us to prove it? No problem.
What makes oil produced in Saudi Arabia different from oil exported from Nigeria? It's the same thing that makes the corn you ate at last summer¿s barbecue different from the corn used to produce ethanol. Stumped? Well, don't feel bad, it's a trick question. The answer? Absolutely nothing. Corn is corn no matter where it comes from -- just as wheat is wheat and natural gas is -- right! -- natural gas. (Though the quality may differ, the make-up is uniform.)
So, in less elaborate terms, corn and oil (and all other commodities) are homogenous goods that can be processed, resold and more often than not, used as an input to the production of other goods or services. These goods are traded on a commodity exchange, thus setting the price-per-barrel (or other metric unit) used to value them.
Now pay attention, here's a question that indeed does have an answer: What is the difference between a commodity and a stock? While a stock can tank and become worthless, a commodity cannot have its value be wiped to zero. One other difference: Most commodities are traded in futures, meaning traders buy and sell where they think the price of a product will be at a certain point in the future. Stocks trade based on the value of the underlying company at that point in time.

Public Invited to Try Out the Latest Rifles, Pistols and Shotguns at the ISRA Open House and Range Day
Comtex
KANKAKEE, Ill., June 13, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ ----The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):
The ISRA is pleased to announce that its annual Open House and Range Day will take place on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at its range facility located near Bonfield, IL. The event will kick off at 10:00 AM and will run until 4:00 PM. Admission is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.
"The attention-grabber of the day will certainly be Manufacturers' Row," said ISRA Executive Director, Richard Pearson. "That's where the nation's leading gun makers will have the latest in guns and gear on display. As an added bonus, our guests will actually have the opportunity to take most of the display guns to the firing line and try them out. It's never too early to start that holiday wish list and our Open House is a great place to get that wish list started. This year we expect all the big players to be on-hand including Winchester, Glock, Remington, Rock River, Armalite, and Springfield Armory, to name just a few."
All persons test-firing guns must adhere to state and federal law and must complete an on-site safety briefing. A nominal fee will be charged to cover the cost of ammunition.
Other attractions will include static displays of vintage military vehicles, battle reenactments from the French & Indian War and World War Two, as well as booths hosted by firearm rights organizations.
The ISRA Range is located near Bonfield, Illinois on Warner Bridge Road (7000W), approximately 4.5 miles south of Illinois Route 113 or approximately 1.5 miles north of Illinois Route 17. Additional information may be obtained by calling the ISRA Range Office at (815) 635-3198.
"We're very proud of our world-class range facilities and we just love to show them off," commented Pearson. "We hope to see seasoned shooters, plinkers, and folks just interested in learning about the shooting sports come on out to our Open House!"
The ISRA is the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. Since 1903, the ISRA has represented over 1.5 million law-abiding Illinois firearm owners.
