Arizona Could Get First Wind Farm by 2010
Associated Press
PHOENIX--Arizona's first wind-energy power plant is a step closer to becoming a reality.
The first phase of the proposed Dry Lake Wind Project northwest of Snowflake is scheduled to open by 2010. It will have about 30 wind turbines generating enough electricity when the wind blows to meet the needs of nearly 16,000 homes.
A second phase could bring an additional 200 or more turbines, which would have the capability of providing enough energy for close to 79,000 homes.
The Bureau of Land Management now has signed a right-of-way agreement and other documents for the wind farm.
Additionally, the Arizona State Land Department has signed a permit for the portion of the project that will use state
land.
The Salt River Project has an agreement to buy all the electricity from the wind farm.
