Pfizer Completes Wyeth Acquisition
FOXBusiness
Drug makers Pfizer (PFE) and Wyeth (WYE) have completed their $68 billion merger.
The deal was closed nine months after Pfizer announced the acquisition and one day after the companies got final approval from the Federal Trade Commission and the Canadian Competition Bureau.
Pfizer needed the deal to diversify its operations as it faces competition from generic products and loss of patents on some of its most popular drugs.
Nearly 20,000 job cuts are expected as a result of the combination.
