Market Winners & Losers: Sunoco, Southwest Airlines

The major indexes closed in positive territory again with the Dow continuing to trade above 10000. The Dow closed up 0.5%, the S&P added 0.4% and the Nasdaq gained 0.1 %.
Here are Thursday’s winners and losers:
Winners
Sunoco Inc. (SUN)
A government report on gasoline demand gave refinery companies a boost Thursday, with Sunoco’s stock closing the session at
10.1%. SUN shares last traded at $32.80, up $3.01 on the day.
Tesoro Corp. (TSO)
Tesoro shares gained 8.6%, or $1.25, on Thursday, closing the session at $15.83.
Valero Energy Corp. (VLO)
Another refiner following the rally, Valero moved up 7.1% Thursday. VLO shares ended the session at $20.15, up $1.34 on the
day.
Safeway Inc. (SWY)
Quarterly estimates beat analysts’ expectations, pushing the grocer up 6.5% on Thursday. SWY shares finished the day at $22.83,
a gain of $1.40.
Southwestern Energy Co. (SWN)
The refiner gained 6%, or $2.82, on Thursday, last trading at $49.49.
Losers
Southwest Airlines Co. (LUV)
The airline’s stock fell 5.7% after the company reported a quarterly loss. LUV shares closed at $9.47, a decline of 57 cents
on the day.
Anadarko Petroleum Corp. (APC)
Despite positive news for oil in the U.S., news of a well failure off the coast of Africa and an analyst downgrade pushed
the refiner down 5.1%. APC shares ended the session at $65.84, down $3.52 on the day.
Citigroup Inc. (C)
While the big bank posted better-than-expected earnings, the stock still fell 5%. Citi shares finished Thursday at $4.75,
a loss of 25 cents on the day.
Charles Schwab Corp. (SCHW)
The investment company closed down 4.8% after its earnings release. SCHW last traded at $18.36, down 92 cents on the day.
Baxter International Inc. (BAX)
BAX shares closed at $54.50, a loss of $2.50 on the day.
