Market Winners & Losers: Monsanto, MBIA

    The major indexes ended Tuesday's session mixed. The Dow closed up 0.2% while the Nasdaq fell 0.1% and the S&P ended almost flat, but still in the red.

    Here are Tuesday’s winners and losers:

    Winners

    Monsanto Co. (MON)
    The seed producer’s stock jumped 5.2% after the company said it would be churning out corn and soybean seed products. MON shares last traded at $73.66, a gain of $3.66 on the day.

    American International Group Inc. (AIG)
    The insurer saw its share price jump 3.9% after Moody’s said the company would soon be able to pay off all its debt. AIG shares closed at $37.59, up $1.41 on the day.

    Textron Inc. (TXT)
    The defense company saw its shares rise 3.4%, or 67 cents, to end Tuesday’s session at $20.59.

    Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc. (DPS)
    The beverage manufacturer added 3.3% on higher profit during the third quarter. DPS shares finished Tuesday at $27.56, up 89 cents on the day.

    Massey Energy Co. (MEE)
    The coal producer’s stock jumped 3.2%, or $1.15, to settle at $35.15.

    Losers

    MBIA Inc. (MBI)
    The insurer’s shares fell 26.7% after its quarterly loss was wider than expected. MBI shares closed at $3.52, a loss of $1.28 on the day.

    Zions Bancorp (ZION)
    The regional bank saw its shares drop 7.6% Tuesday. ZION shares ended the session at $13.26, down $1.09 on the day.

    Fluor Corp. (FLR)
    The construction company sank 7.6% after reporting disappointing quarterly earnings. FLR shares finished Tuesday at $44.38, a loss of $3.63 on the day.

    Electronic Arts Inc. (ERTS)
    The video-game manufacturer couldn’t turn profitable games into a profitable quarter and the stock responded by losing 6.4% Tuesday. ERTS shares last traded at $18.29, down $1.24 on the day.

    Sprint Nextel Corp. (S)
    The communications company dropped 5.5% to finish Tuesday’s session. Sprint shares closed at $3.24, a loss of 19 cents on the day.
