Market Winners & Losers: Ford, Denbury Resources

    The major indexes kicked off November with a volatile trading session that managed to end positive. The Dow closed up 0.8%, the S&P 0.7% added and the Nasdaq gained 0.2%.

    Here are Monday’s winners and losers:

    Winners

    Ford Motor Co. (F)
    The auto maker saw its shares leap 8.3% Monday after reporting a quarterly profit that topped $1 billion. Ford shares last traded at $7.58, up 58 cents on the day.

    Coventry Health Care Inc. (CVH)
    The health-care company started the week in positive territory, with its stock gaining 5.4% Monday. CVH shares closed at $20.90, a gain of $1.07.

    Varian Medical Systems Inc. (VAR)
    An upgrade by Soleil Securities boosted shares of the medical-equipment manufacturer by 5.4%. VAR shares ended the session at $413.18, up $2.20 on the day.

    Motorola Inc. (MOT)
    An upgrade by Citigroup helped the mobile phone company’s stock rise 5.4%. Motorola shares finished Monday at $9.03, a gain of 46 cents on the day.

    BB&T Corp. (BBT)
    An upgrade by Sandler O’Neill helped the regional bank’s stock gain 4.8%. BB&T shares last traded at $25.06, a gain of $1.15 on the day.

    Losers

    Denbury Resources Inc. (DNR)
    Denbury’s purchase of Encore Acquisition dropped the oil and natural gas exploration company’s stock by 10.3% Monday. DNR shares closed at $13.09, down $1.51 on the day.

    Dean Foods Co. (DF)
    Future guidance dropped the food and beverage company by 8.5%. DF shares ended the session at $16.69, a loss of $1.54 on the day.

    Huntington Bancshares Inc. (HBAN)
    The diversified financial services company saw its shares slide 5.3% to start the week. HBAN shares finished Monday at $3.61, down 20 cents on the day.

    E*Trade Financial Corp. (EFTC)
    The online brokerage service provider continued its losing streak, as shares sank 4.8% Monday. ETFC shares last traded at $1.39, a loss of 7 cents on the day.

    Genworth Financial Inc. (GNW)
    Another financial services company that felt the heat Monday, Genworth saw its shares drop 4.2%. GNW shares closed at $10.17, down 45 cents on the day.
