Market Winners & Losers: Abercrombie & Fitch, Genzyme

    The major indexes closed the week on a winning note, making up most of Thursday’s losses. The Dow closed up 0.7%, the S&P 500 added 0.6% and the Nasdaq gained 0.9%.

    Here are Friday’s winners and losers:

    Winners

    Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (ANF)
    The teen apparel retailer’s shares jumped 10.7% after releasing a better-than-expected quarterly earnings report. ANF shares last traded at $40.68, a gain of $3.92 on the day.

    Sears Holding Corp. (SHLD)
    SHLD shares rose 6.7% as the company prepares to release earnings in the week to come. The stock closed at $74.54, up $4.68 on the day.

    J.C. Penney Co. Inc. (JCP)
    The retailer’s shares jumped 6.2% on the last day of the week, adding $1.82 on the day to settle at $31.21.

    Juniper Networks Inc. (JNPR)
    Shares of the communications-equipment manufacturer gained 5.9% after Oppenheimer upgraded the stock to Outperform. JNPR shares ended Friday at $26.15, up $1.45 on the day.

    Salesforce.com Inc. (CRM)
    The software provider’s stock closed up 5.1% after Caris & Co. upgraded the company. CRM shares last traded at $66.13, a gain of $3.23 on the day.

    Losers

    Genzyme Corp. (GENZ)
    The pharmaceutical company saw its stock sink 7.3% after the FDA discovered some of its drugs contain contaminants. GENZ shares closed at $49.28, a loss of $3.89 on the day.

    MBIA Inc. (MBI)
    The insurer continued its losing streak, with the stock falling 4.8% Friday. MBI shares finished trading at $3.56, a loss of 18 cents on the day.

    GameStop Corp. (GME)
    The video-game retailer’s shares dropped 3.8%, or 93 cents, to close the final session of the week at $23.69.

    Legg Mason Inc. (LM)
    The investment-management company saw its shares dip 2.7%, or 84 cents, to end Friday’s session at $30.77.

    Northern Trust Corp. (NTRS)
    The financial-holding company’s shares slid 2.3%, or $1.14, to close the final session of the week at $48.04.
