Two Long Island Men Rescue Driver From Sinking Car
Associated Press
BRIGHTWATERS, N.Y.--Two Long Island men became local heroes after they jumped into a canal on Friday to rescue a driver from her sinking SUV.
Suffolk County Police say driver Jennie Cocco, of Islip Terrace, told them her gas pedal became stuck and she lost control of the SUV, which drove into a canal in the village of Brightwaters Friday morning.
Jacob Miller and James Digiovanna jumped into the canal when they saw the submerged SUV. Police say the men rescued Cocco
from the car and brought her to the edge of the canal, where an officer helped them bring the woman to shore.
Cocco was treated for hypothermia at a local hospital. The men refused treatment.
