UPS Raises 2010 Rates
By Kathryn Glass
FOXBusiness
UPS (UPS) announced its new rates on Friday, which will reflect an average net increase of 4.9% on all international shipments originating in the U.S., and on air express mail, the company said in a release.
The rate increase is based on a 6.9% increase in the base rate, and a 2% reduction in the air and international fuel surcharge index.
UPS said the rate changes will help to align air and ground fuel surcharges better and will reduce the volatility of air surcharges when there are fluctuations in fuel prices.
The rate change will go into effect on Jan. 4, 2010, the company said. An updated list of rates is available on the company's Web site.
Shares of UPS fell 28 cents, or 0.5%, in after-hours trading on Friday, after rising 35 cents, or 0.6%, during the session.
