SHANGHAI -(Dow Jones)- Shanghai GM, SAIC Motor Corp.'s (600104.SH) joint venture with General Motors Co., is recalling 2,065 Chevrolet Captivas imported from South Korea because of possible flaws in the steering functions, China's quality watchdog said.
These sports utility vehicles were made by GM's South Korean subsidiary, GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co. before the end of 2007, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement posted on its Web site Friday.
Shanghai GM has not received any customer complaints about the defects yet, the agency added.
Quality issues in the auto industry are now a major focus after a series of recalls and questions about the safety of Toyota Motor Corp.'s (TM) vehicles.
In January, the Japanese automaker issued a recall notice for 75,552 RAV4 sport-utility vehicles in China. Toyota is recalling 8.5 million vehicles worldwide for problems including unintended acceleration related to gas pedal flaws.
Shanghai GM sold 58,622 cars in February, up 67% from a year earlier, as government stimulus measures continued to boost auto sales in China.
