Johnson Controls Posts Profit, Affirms Forecast

NEW YORK -- Johnson Controls Inc. said Tuesday that its fiscal fourth-quarter profit rose to $300 million, or 47 cents a share, from $16 million, or 3 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Excluding one-time items, the Milwaukee-based automotive-supply company said it earned 52 cents a share in the latest period, compared with the year-earlier 73 cents. Sales fell to $7.87 billion from $9.31 billion. Johnson Controls said it expects to post fiscal 2010 earnings of $1.35 to $1.45 a share on revenue of about $31 billion. On average, analysts polled by FactSet Research were expecting per-share earnings of 49 cents for the fourth quarter and $1.52 for the fiscal year ending in September 2010.
