European Shares Muted Ahead Of Jobs Data
By Sarah Turner
MarketWatch Pulse
LONDON -- European shares started on a muted note Friday ahead of key jobs data out from the U.S. later in the session. Earnings from French building materials firm Lafage didn't help sentiment, with shares in the firm down 3.1% after it reported a 38% drop in quarterly profit. Still, shares in British Airways managed to gain ground, up 5.3%, after the airline posted a wider loss but stated that traffic volumes and yields have stabilized. The French CAC-40 index was flat at 3,709.69, the German DAX index was steady at 5,479.60 and the U.K. FTSE 100 index index was also flat at 5,123.89.
