Airline Stocks Up With US Airways, UAL

NEW YORK -- Airline stocks rose early Wednesday on the back of airline traffic reports that showed fuller planes and even some instances of growth. At last check, the NYSE Arca Airline Index rose 1.2% to 24.32 points with all but two of its 13 components trading up. Shares of US Airways rose 4.4% to $3.06, United parent UAL Corp. added 2.3% to $6.79 and Alaska Air [: alk] gained three cents to $25.93. Earlier, UAL and US Airways reported slower declines in October, and Alaska posted growth. All three airlines reported fuller planes thanks to seat-capacity reductions. U.S.-listed shares of Tam Sa and Lan Airlines traded sideways.
