Going-Concern Statement

Just like you never want to hear a doctor say "oops" in the operating room, you never want to see a going-concern statement in a financial report about a company you own. Accountants throw these in when they've been over the books, talked to customers, and checked the horoscopes and have concluded there is "substantial doubt" about a company's ability to remain in business. In short, don't blame the accountants if the company files for bankruptcy protection.

You¿d reckon that a going-concern statement would be enough to send investors running to the exits, but it's not. True, many large institutions automatically bail when an existing company gets slapped with one of these, but many individuals (often wrongly) take a chance they know more than the bean counters.

During the tech boom of the late 1990s, many companies actually went public even though they had been hit with going-concern statements. Many of those companies subsequently disappeared. Enough said.

Opsera and NTT Europe Online Forge Strategic Partnership to Support Open Source Software Solutions for High Growth Start-ups and Enterprises

Comtex

LONDON, Jul 03, 2008 (PR Newswire Europe via COMTEX) ----Opsera, a leading UK open source software and services company, today announces a new partnership with NTT Europe Online to provide clients with managed hosting, security and application management services. Opsera designs, develops and supports business systems using a wide range of open source software. This partnership allows Opsera to offer clients a complete managed service solution from a company with over ten years of experience and a proven track record of reliability.

Secure, scalable hosting is a business necessity for any organisation, and high growth businesses in particular, need a scaleable infrastructure to accommodate rapid expansion and guarantee business continuity. Outsourcing of online applications to Opsera and NTT Europe Online allows expanding businesses to concentrate their resources on driving unique innovation and go to market business models, whilst having the backing and reliability of a global organisation (NTT Europe Online is a wholly owned subsidiary of NTT Communications - the international arm of Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corporation, NTT). High growth businesses are rapidly recognising the benefits of both open source solutions over proprietary technology and the outsourcing model to effectively support their expansion. Together the partners offer a tailored, scaleable system that reduces both up front capital expenditure and on-going operational support costs.

Michael Walton, CEO of Opsera commented, "We are delighted to formalise our relationship with NTT Europe Online by joining their partner programme. Opsera's ability to combine NTT Europe Online's scalable managed services with open source software that meets our client's requirements, means we can deliver modern, highly cost-effective solutions that can grow in line with our client's business operations."

Damian Skendrovic, Regional Director UK at NTT Europe Online, said, "In the current economic climate, there has never been a greater need for companies to be agile in their approach to doing business. Secure and reliable IT systems are recognised as a must-have and, as the market evolves rapidly and businesses have to shift and adapt to compete, IT must support and enable this development. Opsera's open source pedigree and NTT Europe Online's managed hosting expertise naturally compliment each other, giving companies a flexible and scalable IT infrastructure that can evolve alongside their own business requirements."
