Just like you never want to hear a doctor say "oops" in the operating room, you never want to see a going-concern statement
in a financial report about a company you own. Accountants throw these in when they've been over the books, talked to customers,
and checked the horoscopes and have concluded there is "substantial doubt" about a company's ability to remain in business.
In short, don't blame the accountants if the company files for bankruptcy protection.
You¿d reckon that a going-concern
statement would be enough to send investors running to the exits, but it's not. True, many large institutions automatically
bail when an existing company gets slapped with one of these, but many individuals (often wrongly) take a chance they know
more than the bean counters.
During the tech boom of the late 1990s, many companies actually went public even though they had been hit with going-concern statements. Many of those companies subsequently disappeared. Enough said.

Juniper Networks Celebrates the 10th Anniversary of JUNOS Software
Comtex
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jul 17, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) ----Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today marked the 10th anniversary of on-time consecutive quarterly releases of JUNOS(R) software. Over the past 10 years, Juniper has consistently designed, developed and delivered new releases of JUNOS software on a time-tested quarterly release cycle to address the evolving high-performance networking requirements of more than 30,000 service provider, enterprise and public sector customers around the world. JUNOS software provides carrier-class continuous systems availability, automated network operations and the open innovation that businesses demand to quickly align their networks with changing business requirements, while reducing complexity, cost and risk.
"From the very beginning, Juniper has had the engineering design discipline to innovate broadly and execute relentlessly to solve the most difficult networking problems once, and leverage the solutions broadly across our silicon, system and software research and development efforts," said Pradeep Sindhu, founder and CTO of Juniper Networks. "JUNOS software is the culmination of the understanding that a single network operating system must continually evolve to keep pace with the escalating requirements for scale, performance, reliability and security."
Juniper Networks JUNOS software development is based on three founding design principles collectively referred to as the Power of One:
-- One network operating system across platforms that minimizes the time, resources and effort required to plan, deploy and operate a high-performance network infrastructure
-- One software release train to deliver stable and fully regression-tested, incremental features and functionality
-- One modular software architecture to provide highly available, secure software that is able to evolve quickly to meet customer requirements
"The key to networking in today's market, whether you're an enterprise or a consumer, is consistency and predictability - your network has to do what it promised," said Tom Nolle, president, CIMI Corp. "Juniper has been a leader in delivering on what is the most important dimension in meeting that requirement, which is a stable network operating system with a single version in each release and a predictable release schedule. This is an issue that's only going to get more important over time, and it's an issue that Juniper's already in the lead on."
These time-tested founding principles have guided the evolution of JUNOS software, which now runs across a broad portfolio of Juniper Networks platforms and integrates a rich set of features for routing, switching, security and an array of advanced network services. In the past year alone, Juniper introduced: a Partner Solution Development Platform (PSDP), which invites customers and partners to design and develop specialized applications on JUNOS; integrated best-in-class security services from Juniper Networks ScreenOS software into JUNOS 9.0 software; and eight new hardware platforms powered by JUNOS software, including the first high-performance control plane scaling platform and Ethernet switches for IT organizations.
