Just like you never want to hear a doctor say "oops" in the operating room, you never want to see a going-concern statement
in a financial report about a company you own. Accountants throw these in when they've been over the books, talked to customers,
and checked the horoscopes and have concluded there is "substantial doubt" about a company's ability to remain in business.
In short, don't blame the accountants if the company files for bankruptcy protection.
You¿d reckon that a going-concern
statement would be enough to send investors running to the exits, but it's not. True, many large institutions automatically
bail when an existing company gets slapped with one of these, but many individuals (often wrongly) take a chance they know
more than the bean counters.
During the tech boom of the late 1990s, many companies actually went public even though they had been hit with going-concern statements. Many of those companies subsequently disappeared. Enough said.

Vocollect Voice Applications Address Top Imperatives for Optimizing Supply Chain Operations in Recent Aberdeen Study
Comtex
PITTSBURGH, Jun 26, 2008 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) ----Vocollect, Inc. today highlighted how its voice applications address the most urgent imperatives for optimizing supply chain operations, as outlined in a recent study by respected research firm the Aberdeen Group, a Harte-Hanks Company. The global study of more than 150 companies pointed to several key actions that best-in-class companies are taking to maximize the delivery of organizational value across their supply chain operations.
The study, which surveyed distribution center/supply chain leadership across multiple industries and countries, was sponsored by Vocollect, Manhattan Associates, C3 Solutions and Forte. The four imperatives survey respondents identified as top priorities were: 1) make the distribution center (DC)/warehouse more flexible and agile as business needs change, 2) improve labor efficiency, 3) improve visibility to warehouse activities and inventory and order status, and 4) improve throughput.
"Vocollect Voice is a proven tool in addressing each of these business imperatives," said Roger Byford, Vocollect Chairman and CEO. "Through more than 20 years of operation in over 35 countries, time and again, our customers tell us that Vocollect Voice helps them manage their resource risk and deliver exceptional performance results. Vocollect Voice offers the only end-to-end integrated system for driving voice at work, assuring customers they will receive the highest levels of capability, reliability and flexibility," he said.
Vocollect Voice addresses the four imperatives cited in the study in the following ways:
<< -- Make the DC/warehouse more flexible and agile as business needs change - The flexibility and configurability of Vocollect Voice helps operations more quickly and easily derive accuracy and productivity benefits, with flexibility and scalability that is essential for diverse businesses. -- Improve labor efficiency - With the ergonomic benefits of Vocollect Voice, workers' eyes and hands are left free to focus on the task at hand, thus enhancing overall efficiency and safety. Many customers also experience training time reductions of as much as 50 percent, and more effectively employ seasonal workers by getting them productive quickly. -- Improve visibility to warehouse activities and inventory and order status - Vocollect Voice allows a two-way dialogue between DC teams and customers' WMS, ERP, or inventory management systems and other distribution technologies. This monitoring of distribution activities in real time ensures greater ability to adjust orders as customer needs dictate. -- Improve throughput - Customers using Vocollect Voice have experienced performance gains as high as 30 percent and accuracy improvements as high as 60 to 80 percent. More on-time and accurate deliveries because of improved DC/warehouse efficiencies ensure greater customer satisfaction. >>
"Voice integration and device costs have decreased over time and allowed DC/warehouse managers to bring entire workforces online in a matter of weeks," said Bob Shecterle, Aberdeen SVP/Group Director - Research. "Not only has voice driven improvements in order selection; we see many DC/warehouse managers deploying voice into all operations, including receiving, put-away, cycle-counting, replenishment, loading and cross-docking. By combining the business rules and value of the WMS with voice recognition capability, the interleaved/cross-trained workforce is more flexible, more agile, and moving at greater speed than the average DC/warehouse."
