    Technology Stocks Post Early Gains Led By Chips

      SAN FRANCISCO -- Technology stocks posted early gains Wednesday, as shares of semiconductor makers rallied at the opening bell. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 0.8% to 2,167. The Morgan Stanley High Tech 35 Index was also up 0.8%, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index added 1.2%, on gains from such players as Intel Corp. , Advanced Micro Devices and Applied Materials .
