Free Cash Flow

Just as your pulse is checked during a routine physical, free cash flow is used as an indicator of a company's health. It equals the cash brought in from operations minus the money needed to pay the bills. Think about leftover money in your checking account after you pay this month's bills.

Investors and analysts see this leftover money as a gauge of a company's ability to perform. It is available for transactions such as handing out dividends and working on new products.

Some argue free cash flow is wrongly overshadowed by the emphasis often placed on earnings. Earnings numbers can be manipulated and don't always tell the whole story -- and earnings don't mean much if there's nothing left over after a company pays its expenses. Even if you bring in a six-figure salary, but no money left after paying the bills, are you in great financial shape?

You don't have to be Einstein to figure out free cash flow. To calculate the number, subtract the company's expenditures and dividends from its operating cash flow.

If the free cash flow is written in red ink, it doesn't necessarily signal curtains. This is common for young companies looking to grow. It also could be a result of heavy investments, which in the long run could be worth a standing ovation.

FREMONT, Calif., Jul 29, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) ----Today, Logitech (SWX:LOGN)(NASDAQ:LOGI) and Pandora(R), the most popular Internet radio service in the United States, announced that Pandora is now free of charge for owners of Logitech(R) Squeezebox(TM) Duet, Logitech(R) Squeezebox(TM) and Logitech(R) Transporter(R) network music players. Logitech is the first network music player manufacturer to offer Pandora at no extra charge. In the fall this platform will be supported by advertising, providing the opportunity for marketers to reach a discriminating and influential consumer.

"With more than 15 million listeners, Pandora is playing the lead role in popularizing Internet radio," said Robin Selden, vice president and general manager of the Logitech Streaming Media business unit. "And while Pandora has been available in the past on Squeezebox players as a subscription service obtained through our Internet-based SqueezeNetwork(TM), we're delighted to now be able to enhance SqueezeNetwork and include this great radio service for anyone who owns a Logitech network music player."

Logitech's network music players let you listen to the music you love in any room of your home -- even when your computer is off. Using your existing home network and the stereo system you already own, you can listen to your personal digital-music collection, Pandora (and hundreds of other Internet radio stations) and subscription services on your home-entertainment system in your living room, the stereo system in your bedroom, even on the mini-system in your kitchen -- anywhere you have audio gear. Logitech's network music players use advanced 802.11g wireless technology, so you don't have to string wires everywhere just to listen to music from your computer.

"As Internet radio goes mainstream, Logitech is positioned at the center of this evolving ecosystem," said Tim Westergren, Founder of Pandora. "With a Squeezebox player, Pandora listeners can listen to their personal radio stations in any room of their home."

Pandora (www.pandora.com) is a free, personalized radio service, available anytime and anywhere on the PC, in the home and on mobile devices, including the Logitech Squeezebox and Apple iPhone. Since 2000, Pandora has been building the Music Genome Project(R) by employing musician-analysts to carefully review and categorize every song. Using this technology, you can simply enter a favorite song or artist and Pandora immediately creates a radio station, up to 100 per listener, based around that musical sound. By simply entering a favorite song or artist, a listener is instantly launched into a personalized listening experience, full of new discovery as Pandora explores their favorite part of the music universe. Listeners can create up to 100 of these personal radio stations and refine them by providing feedback via the Pandora radio tuner. Additionally, listeners can create profiles, search for other listeners in the Pandora community who have similar musical tastes, and find stations built by other listeners, using artist and song names as well as genre and mood search terms. The result is a personalized radio experience -- stations that play music you'll love and nothing else.
