JDS Uniphase Reports Bigger Loss

    SAN FRANCISCO - JDS Uniphase Corp. on Thursday reported a fiscal first-quarter loss of $31.9 million, or 15 cents a share, compared with a loss of $21.3 million, or 10 cents a share, for the year-earlier period. Revenue was $297.8 million, down from $377.2 million for the same quarter last year. Adjusted income was 4 cents a share. Analysts had expected the Milpitas, Calif.-based maker of communications equipment to report a profit of 2 cents a share, on revenue of $291.85 million, according to a consensus survey by FactSet Research. For the current quarter, the company expects non-GAAP net revenue in the range of $320 million to $345 million.
