Japan Shares Mixed, But Hitachi Shares Sink

TOKYO -- Japanese shares traded on a mixed note, with Japan's Nikkei 225 Average up 0.3% to 9,802.53 and the Topix at 864.72, down 0.3% Monday morning in Tokyo. Hitachi Ltd. dropped 5.4% after the Nikkei reported over the weekend that the company plans to raise more than 300 billion yen ($3.4 billion) in capital by the end of the year. Trading firms were among the gainers, with Marubeni Corp. up 0.9% and Mitsubishi Corp. up 0.3%. In South Korea, the Kospi climbed 0.5% in early dealings, while the S&P/ASX 200 rose 1% in Sydney.
