European Shares Edge Lower

LONDON -- European shares edged lower in early trading on Friday, with shares of telecom equipment firm Alcatel-Lucent down 3.1% after it posted a wider net loss and oil producers also moving lower. Still, shares of advertising giant WPP rose 3.9% as investors eyed a 17% jump in third-quarter revenue. The U.K. FTSE 100 index traded flat at 5,137.39, the German DAX index fell 0.2% to 5,576.66 and the French CAC-40 index lost 0.2% to 3,705.32.
