TAIPEI -(Dow Jones)- Asustek Computer Inc.'s (AKCIY) shareholders approved Tuesday the firm's plan to spin off its contract manufacturing unit Pegatron Technology Corp.
"We want to complete the spinoff as soon as possible so that the branded and contract-manufacturing operations can concentrate on their own strengths," Chairman Jonney Shih said at the firm's extraordinary shareholders' meeting, at which 77.94% of the attending shareholders voted in favor of the spinoff. The remainder either didn't vote or voted against the plan.
Under the plan, Asustek's shareholders will receive 0.15 Asustek share and 0.4037 Pegatron share for each Asustek share they own.
