Amazon.com (AMZN) trimmed the cost of its Kindle e-reader by 13% on Wednesday and introduced a new international wireless version.

The online retailer cut the price of its bestselling Kindle to $259, down from $299 and down more than $100 from a year ago. The Kindle allows users to wirelessly download books, newspapers, magazines and other documents through 3G wireless technology or by syncing with a PC.

“Kindle is the most wished for, the most gifted, and the #1 bestselling product across the millions of items we sell on Amazon, and we’re excited to be able to lower the price,” CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement.

Amazon.com said the new global wireless product will allow users to download a book in less than 60 seconds at home or abroad in over 100 countries. The new product can be pre-ordered starting on Wednesday and ships on Oct. 19.
