Exchange-Traded Fund

In the wide and varied family of the thousands and thousands of funds out there, the exchange-traded fund is one of the more consumer-friendly ones.

Unlike mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, or ETFs, behave more like stocks. You can buy into an ETF at any time, and sell it whenever you feel like it. And like a stock, an ETF's value can rise and fall--depending on what the ETF is invested in.What do ETFs invest in? Well, they're typically linked to an index like the Dow Jones Industrial Average or the S&P 500. So, if you had an ETF that trades the same companies that make up the Dow or the S&P, it will rise and fall in value pretty much the same amount as the Dow or S&P.

You can also buy ETFs that invest in other types of products, like bonds, currencies, gold or other commodities. The ETF market has grown considerably in the past few years, so there is no shortage of ETFs to invest in.

DEERFIELD, Ill., Jul 11, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) ----Walgreens (NYSE:WAG)(NASDAQ:WAG) today announced the following executive promotions:

Hal F. Rosenbluth, 56, president of Walgreens Health and Wellness division, has been named a corporate senior vice president. Rosenbluth is the co-founder and chairman of Take Care Health Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary acquired by Walgreens in 2007. Take Care Health Systems manages 183 convenient care clinics located at Walgreens drugstores and plans to have about 400 clinics in operation by the end of 2008.

Walgreens Health and Wellness division was formed in March as part of Walgreens acquisitions of two leading operators of worksite health centers, I-trax, Inc. of Chadds Ford, Penn., parent company of CHD Meridian Healthcare, LLC, and privately held Whole Health Management of Cleveland. With these acquisitions, Walgreens has more than 500 worksite and retail health centers, including its Take Care Health Clinics.

"Hal's strength as an entrepreneur who knows how to build profitable businesses is serving him well as he leads the integration of I-trax, Whole Health Management and Take Care Health Systems under our Health and Wellness division," said Walgreens Chairman and CEO Jeffrey A. Rein.

Rosenbluth has 29 years of experience in the business-to-business sector as founder of Rosenbluth International (RI), a global travel management company. Through a series of acquisitions, he built RI into a $3 billion business with 4,300 employees operating in 15 countries before selling the company to American Express in 2003. The following year, he co-founded Take Care Health Systems, which opened its first convenient care clinic in November 2005.

Michael Nameth, 55, executive vice president for pharmacy benefit management and specialty pharmacy at Walgreens Health Services division, has been promoted to a corporate divisional vice president for Walgreens. Nameth joined Walgreens in 2006 when the company acquired Medmark Specialty Pharmacy Solutions.

"Mike is a strategic thinker, operations oriented and good with people," said Rein. "His understanding of the managed care business will be a tremendous asset as we accelerate our strategy."

Nameth is a 1976 pharmacy school graduate of The Ohio State University and holds an M.B.A. from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. Nameth spent 10 years at WellPoint, the nation's largest health benefits company in terms of medical membership, and was president of its pharmacy benefit management unit when he left to join Medmark as executive vice president in 2005. He has more than 20 years of experience in the managed care industry.

Mark A. Wattley, 42, vice president and legal counsel of human resources for Walgreens Health Services, has been promoted to a corporate divisional vice president for Walgreens. Wattley joined Walgreens 10 years ago as a senior attorney in employee relations and moved to Walgreens Health Services in 2003. Prior to Walgreens, he was an employment litigation attorney with the Chicago Board of Education.

"Mark is a great listener, and as our Walgreens Health Services division has grown through acquisitions, he understands the trepidation people often feel when their companies are acquired by a larger one," said Rein. "Mark has been very effective at retaining key people by welcoming them and easing their way into the Walgreens team."

Wattley earned a bachelor of arts degree in English literature from DePaul University, Chicago, in 1988 and his law degree from Notre Dame Law School, South Bend, Ind., in 1991.

He began his career as an attorney for Vedder, Price, Kaufman & Kammholz in Chicago from 1991-92. He worked as a regional attorney for the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights, Chicago, from 1992 to 1996 before joining the Chicago Board of Education in 1996.

Walgreens (www.walgreens.com) is the nation's largest drugstore chain with fiscal 2007 sales of $53.8 billion. The company operates 6,297 drugstores in 49 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Walgreens provides the most convenient access to consumer goods and cost-effective health care services in America through its retail drugstores, Walgreens Health Services division and Walgreens Health and Wellness division. Walgreens Health Services assists pharmacy patients and prescription drug and medical plans through Walgreens Health Initiatives Inc. (a pharmacy benefit manager), Walgreens Mail Service Inc., Walgreens Home Care Inc., Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy LLC and SeniorMed LLC (a pharmacy provider to long-term care facilities). Walgreens Health and Wellness division includes Take Care Health Systems, which is comprised of: Take Care Consumer Solutions, managers of 183 convenient care clinics at Walgreens drugstores, and Take Care Employer Solutions, managers of worksite-based health and wellness services at 355 employer campuses.
