No-Load Funds

Some mutual funds want you to pay for the privilege of them (or your investment adviser) taking your money to invest. It's called a load, and it works like a cover charge to get into a nightclub. Luckily, there are such things as no-load funds. As the name implies, shares of these funds are sold without a fee paid to a broker or investment advisor.

The entire amount you invest in no-load funds goes to work for your returns. On the other hand, with load funds, right off the bat you're charged commission (not to mention other fees incurred over the life of the investment). Let's say, for example, you invest $25,000 into a load fund that charges a 5% commission. This costs you $1,250 off the top, bringing your actual investment down to only $23,750.

The often-cited horse race analogy argues against investing in load funds. Here's the logic behind it: Would you place a bet on a horse that had to start a race 200 yards behind the others? Well, maybe you would if you got a tip from a sketchy, trench coat-clad man in a dark alley. However, under most circumstances, it's not smart to put your money on that handicapped horse.

But some argue that at times that man in the trench coat (aka your broker) knows more about the horses than you do, and has a better shot at picking a winner. Also, sometimes these fees are unavoidable because some funds are available only through investment advisers.

Cost-benefit analysis can help determine when a load fund is worth it (in other words, when it will score you a load) and when it is better to "do it yourself" and avoid the fees. Load-fund fees range depending on share class and can cover a variety of costs, such as paper work and fund management.

Roll into Spring and Summer with Heelys(R)

Comtex

DALLAS, May 05, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) ----Heelys, Inc. (NASDAQ: HLYS), the youth sports lifestyle company, is encouraging kids to get off the couch and enjoy outdoor fun and physical activity this spring and summer. To keep heeling enjoyable, Heelys is offering its top 10 tips:

1. Read all of the instructional information that comes with your Heelys footwear prior to using them. For additional information visit: http://www.heelys.com/heeling.html

2. When wearing Heelys wheeled footwear, always stagger your feet with your strong foot in front - putting them side by side will result in your feet sliding out from under you.

3. When walking with the wheels in, do not lean back on your heels and make sure to walk with your toes touching the ground first.

4. Be extra cautious when heeling on an uneven surface - debris and crevices can cause sudden stops and uncontrolled movements.

5. Never heel faster than you can walk. If you feel like you are losing balance, step out of heeling by putting your toes down and lean forward.

6. Stay hydrated in the spring and summer fun by drinking water and fruit beverages and remember your sunscreen!

7. Crowded public areas are not good places for heeling, skateboarding, kickboarding or push scootering. Be careful not to cause inconvenience to others by running into them or cutting them off.

8. Be careful not to endanger others' safety or your own.

9. Follow the rules in public places - if there is no heeling, make sure to take out your wheels.

10. Respect others' rights to enjoy public places just as you do.

"According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 16 percent of youth ages 6 - 19 are overweight or obese, and inactivity as well as poor eating habits are contributors. One of our goals is to engage kids in physical activity and illustrate that there are a variety of ways to exercise outside of the traditional forms," said Don Carroll, SVP Marketing for Heelys, Inc. "Heelys are designed to get kids up off the couch and moving, and even inspire outdoor activities with friends, the whole family, and even neighborhood skate teams."

Heelys created the "wheeled footwear" category with a single stealth removable wheel housed in the heel of each shoe allowing kids of all ages and skill levels to walk, run and transition to a roll at any moment. For the back-to-school season, Heelys is introducing a "non-wheeled" footwear product line, Sidewalk Sports, geared toward sidewalk sports enthusiasts who want to focus on their moves, rather than if their feet will stick to their gear. Whether it's riding a bike, skateboard, or scooter, the Sidewalk Sports line's revolutionary grip technology is designed to help feet stay in-place. The colorful line of popular "wheel-in-the-heel footwear" and the revolutionary Sidewalk Sports Line with grip technology are perfect for "shredding the sidewalk" and fun-in-the-sun activities all season long.

Besides Heelys' continued commitment to both creative styling and innovative technology, Heelys is strongly committed to youth safety. The company offers training materials including "Heeling Basics: A Beginners Guide" and a How-To-Video on its web site at www.heelys.com. The company continues to offer safety gear including a cool, flame design helmet and a protective gear 3-pack that is TUV and GS approved. Heelys encourages parents to review the training materials with their kids to ensure a fun and safe heeling experience.
