Retail Stocks Rise; Zale, Dollar Tree Top Marks

NEW YORK - Retail stocks rose on Tuesday after retailers from Zale Corp. to Dollar Tree Inc. posted better-than-expected quarterly results. The S&P Retail Index rose 0.2% to 404.81. Jewelry retailer Zale shares rose 6.7%. Dollar Tree shares climbed 3.6%. Teen retailer American Eagle Outfitters Inc. shares rose 5.4%. Among the decliners, Borders Group Inc. shares fell 5.5% while rival Barnes & Noble Inc. shares fell 6.5%. Both book retailers posted losses and Barnes & Noble lowered its full-year profit forecast to 33 cents to 63 cents a share, from its previous forecast range of 59 to 89 cents a share.
