eBay Goes After Holiday Shoppers with New Ads
FOXBusiness
eBay (EBAY) plans to roll out a new marketing campaign on Monday with an eye towards boosting its image as a destination for holiday shoppers this season.
The ad campaign will center around the phrase, “Come to think of it, eBay," and will be featured in print, online, and TV advertisements that will run through Christmas.
The campaign was originated by Omnicom (OMC), and has been in development for around two years. It marks the first large-scale advertising roll-out by eBay in a year and a half. eBay was no worse for wear without big advertisements—the company cut its ad spending in 2008 by 50%, and last week reported a revenue increase from the year prior.
The ads seem to focus on bargains available on eBay, with one print ad reading, "Get the same new bag as celebrities with money left over for a tiny dog.” Another ad informs customers that “last year’s” music player will still play this year’s music.
