Dollar Tree Posts Higher Profit

NEW YORK -- Dollar Tree Inc. said Tuesday that its third-quarter profit rose to $68.2 million, or 76 cents a share, from $43.1 million, or 47 cents a share, in the year-earlier period. Sales increased to $1.25 billion from $1.11 billion, and same-store sales rose 6.5% in the latest quarter. The discount retailer said it expects to post a profit of $1.30 to $1.39 a share for the fourth quarter and $3.34 to $3.43 a share for the year. On average, analysts polled by FactSet Research were looking for earnings of 66 cents a share for the third quarter, $1.35 a share for the fourth quarter and $3.25 a share for the full year.
