In the wide and varied family of the thousands and thousands of funds out there, the exchange-traded fund is one of the more consumer-friendly ones.
Unlike mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, or ETFs, behave more like stocks. You can buy
into an ETF at any time, and sell it whenever you feel like it. And like a stock, an ETF's value can rise and fall--depending
on what the ETF is invested in.What do ETFs invest in? Well, they're typically linked to an index like the Dow Jones Industrial
Average or the S&P 500. So, if you had an ETF that trades the same companies that make up the Dow or the S&P, it will
rise and fall in value pretty much the same amount as the Dow or S&P.
You can also buy ETFs that invest in other
types of products, like bonds, currencies, gold or other commodities. The ETF market has grown considerably in the past few
years, so there is no shortage of ETFs to invest in.

Barnes & Noble Exclusive: Lucy Woodward Is... Hot And Bothered
Comtex
NEW YORK, Jul 23, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) ----Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the world's largest bookseller, today announced that Lucy Woodward Is... Hot and Bothered, the new album from the irresistible and unforgettable singer-songwriter, Lucy Woodward, will be available nationwide exclusively at Barnes & Noble stores and online at Barnes & Noble.com (www.bn.com) starting July 29.
Previously known for her Top 40 hit single "Dumb Girls" (Atlantic Records), Lucy Woodward Is... Hot and Bothered is a collection of original jazz and swing-inspired songs including the title track, which Woodward cites as inspired by the melody of a Yiddish lullaby her grandmother sang to her as a baby. The album is co-produced by long-time collaborator and musical director, Itaal Shur, whose songwriting credits include the Grammy-winning, Rob Thomas/Carlos Santana smash, "Smooth." Other Hot and Bothered favorites include "Slow Recovery," "What I Can Do," and the cool slow jazz of "I Won't Care."
The CD will be a featured selection in the Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Music program in over 500 music departments and online at BN.com. "We are very excited to be the exclusive retailer of Lucy Woodward Is...Hot and Bothered," said Steven Scott, director of music marketing for Barnes & Noble, Inc. "Lucy's undeniably fun and infectious tunes are presented in the great tradition of jazz and swing performers with a totally modern twist. The album sounds like it sprung from a soulful jazz nightclub."
Woodward has showcased her new songs to standing-room-only crowds throughout the New York area. "I performed at all the hot and happening swing clubs in New York City with The Sugarman 3," said Woodward. "B-3 organ trio and I got back into singing jazz standards, and wearing sequins." Her sizzling live performance includes horns, swing dancers and backup singers which offer the perfect send up to Woodward's lusty, torch-style vocals.
Though only in her twenties, Woodward's accomplishments are many. Her 2003 major label debut CD, While You Can, garnered significant media exposure and landed her a spot on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," and also enabled her to tour internationally throughout Asia, Europe, Africa and South America. She earned a BMI songwriter's Award for the Stacie Orrico hit, "There's Gotta Be More To Life." And, her charitable endeavors are many, including journeys to an AIDS village in Rwanda and a children's refugee camp in Nicaragua, as a goodwill ambassador on behalf of Reverend Desmond Tutu raising funds and delivering supplies. Woodward has also visited and performed for the children of the villages of Kenya. She was invited recently to perform benefits for Reverend Tutu for his Dallas foundation and also a New York benefit where she performed with Carole King.
Customers can pre-order Lucy Woodward Is... Hot and Bothered online at BN.com (www.bn.com).
