Yahoo and Microsoft Advertising Venture On Again?
By Kathryn Elizabeth Tuggle

Reports circulated on Friday that Yahoo (YHOO) and Microsoft (MSFT) might be getting closer to a deal that would join the giants’ Internet search and advertising operations.
According to a report in The Wall Street Journal's All Things Digital blog, the an agreement could be inked within a matter of weeks.
Discussions of a joint venture between the two Internet powerhouses have been going on for more than a year, with both companies desirous of unseating search leader Google (GOOG).
Microsoft and Yahoo could not immediately be reached for comment.
In early 2008, Yahoo chief executive Jerry Yang fell under criticism from shareholders for refusing Microsoft’s bid of $47.5 billion to acquire the company. Yahoo is now headed by Carol Bartz, and talks have resumed for Yahoo to sell its Internet search division, not the entire company, to Microsoft.
According the report in the Journal, several different types of deals have been discussed by Microsoft and Yahoo, but a final deal would likely involve Microsoft paying a one-time fee to Yahoo for its audience network.
