News Corp. Profit Lifted By 'Ice Age' Sequel

CHICAGO - News Corp. said its first fiscal- quarter profit rose sharply on the international box office proceeds from "Ice Age: Dawn Of the Dinosaurs" and higher fees at its cable channels, along with the absence of a charge it incurred in the year-ago period. News Corp. said it earned $571 million, or 22 cents a share, compared with a profit of $515 million, or 20 cents a share, in the same quarter a year ago. Revenue fell to $7.2 billion from $7.51 billion. Analysts had expected News Corp. to report a profit of 18 cents a share on revenue of $7.16 billion, according to a survey conducted by Thomson Reuters. News Corp. owns Dow Jones & Co., which includes The Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones Newswires, Barron's and MarketWatch, the publisher of this report.
