CHICAGO -- News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch said Wednesday he sees "some encouraging trends in most of [the company's] businesses." Murdoch, speaking on a conference call, said he expects 2010 to be "a year of stability," and that News Corp. will be in a position to benefit ahead of any economic recovery "regardless of its strength." He added that the company's U.S. television operations have seen a "marked improvement" in the fourth quarter, with revenue at the Fox owned-and-operated TV stations up by a "mid-teens" percentage this month compared with the same month last year. At the Fox network, trends are also getting better, Murdoch said. News Corp. owns Dow Jones & Co., which includes MarketWatch, the publisher of this report.
